Metal structures need regular maintenance inspections. During these inspections, anomalies such as deep cracks, rust formation and “crocodile skin” are looked for.

Crocodile skin

The fragmentation of thin layers of materials is mediated by a network of cracks on the surface. It is often seen in dried-out paintings and referred to as “crocodile skin”.
